Tat — also called hessian cloth or jute cloth — is a coarsely woven fabric used to wrap and cover bulk loads, bales and stacked cartons before they're loaded for transport. It's breathable, tough, and cheap enough to use generously, which is why it's a packaging staple across Ludhiana's hosiery and industrial units.
Hosiery units use tat to wrap finished garment bales for outstation dispatch, while factories use it to cover loose or irregularly shaped loads that don't fit neatly into a cartoon box. It's also commonly layered over bora sacks or corrugated boxes for an extra protective outer covering during long-distance transport.
